What is THE SECRET Movie and Why Do So Many People Seem To Be Dissing It?In my last post I mentioned a movie a number of times called 'The Secret'. If you don't know what it is here are some key points about it.The Secret is an independent movie (2005) that was produced and created by an Australian woman named Rhonda Byrne. The movie uses interviews and short dramatic clips to explain and demonstrate something called the Law of Attraction. (If you don't know the Law of Attraction is tune in for my next post.) The movie is well known because Ms. Byrne and her team of internet marketers did a smash up viral online campaign that is still talked about today. Everybody was talking about the movie 'The Secret' before it was released online. Later, Oprah endorsed the movie, as well as having a number of The Secret interviewees on her show, which of course helped. Ellen also went on to interview some of the interviewees as well. The movie does a pretty good job of keeping the pace going by doing quick cuts from interviews to the dramatic clips as well as using state of the art effects and music. Some of the person who were interviewed during the movie were: Dr. Joe Vitale - a long time new thought author and advocate of the Law of Attraction and it's principles. He is also an internet marketing guru as well as a business coach Bob Proctor - a well known business coach Jack Canfield - a well known American success coach Mike Dooley - author of the popular Notes From The Universe daily email series, as well as similar books about The Universe. Mike's philosophy is centered around the statement 'Thoughts Become Things, So Think The Good Ones!' John Assaraf - entrepreneur Michael Beckwith - pastor, speaker and visionary John Demartini - a well known philosopher Bob Doyle - a well known author Hale Dwoskin - author of The Sedona Method (if you have not read it, check it out) Morris Goodwin - known as 'The Miracle Man' John Gray - a well known author John Hageline - a quantum physicist Bill Harris - the creator of the popular Holosync (Centerpointe) meditation audio CDs Neale Donald Walsch - author of The Conversations with God series as well as a number of others. You can see a complete list of interviewees, as well as see the movie at TheSecret.tv The Secret was inspired by the book The Science of Getting Rich a long out of print book by a turn of the century author named Wallace Wattles. The movie does explain The Law of Attraction (Ask, Believe and Receive) however the original version of the movie looked quite different. In the beginning the movie included interviews and narration by a woman named Esther Hicks. She channels a group of entities named Abraham. Esther Hicks (and her husband Jerry) have been long time Law of Attraction coaches, speakers and authors and their writings clearly explain The Law of Attraction. Part of the Hicks teaching is to use something called the Emotional Vibration Scale. Basically they teach that in order to 'attract' something into your life you need to feel a positive emotion along with your visualization. In some of my earlier posts I have mentioned that when you do your affirmations you need to be feeling a positive emotion when you say your affirmation. If you don't they won't work. What the Hicks teachings advocate is a similar approach. Anyway... for contractual reasons the Hicks portion of The Secret was deleted. What was left was a much fluffier version of how The Law of Attraction works and how to use it. The original version of The Secret, with the Hicks teachings intact (with explanation of the Emotional Vibrational Scale), are available online and to purchase. The links seem to move around so I am not sure where they are coming from. With the Hicks teaching removed the message was watered down however still helpful to someone coming across this type of thinking for the first time. If you can see the movie I would recommend it. I think Rhonda Byrne's intention with this movie was to bring this message to the world in order to make it a better place. I think she fulfilled her intention. You will want to check out two books as well in order to get the full essence of what the movie was intending to communicate: Ask and It Is Given - Esther Hicks The Science of Getting Rich - Wallace Wattles (see previous post for a FREE download link) Since The Secret came out many people have been negative about the movie. First, Christian evangelicals call the whole Law of Attraction philosophy witchcraft and those persons had a heyday with responses to the movie when it was released. I am sure hundreds of sermons where written and delivered. Second, the mainstream media was not so kind to the message and many called The Law of Attraction philosophy new age mumbo jumbo. Oprah's endorsement did not help in this regard. Third, some of the very people who were interviewed are now coming forward and 'saying' their comments were taken out of context and they were not happy with how the movie portrayed them. Further, some of these persons have now come out with rival products or 'companion products' that are intended to fully explain what The Secret missed out on. If you have not seen the movie, see if you can see it. If for no other reason you will be introduced so some very competent teachers and authors. You will get some understanding of The Law of Attraction; however, you will need some supplemental reading (see above) if you want to understand this philosophy.
